Overview

Giraffe Manor is Nairobi’s most iconic historical building, dating back to the 1930s, and is reminiscent of the early days of Europeans in East Africa. Whilst the building itself resonates with the past, very much present is the herd of eleven resident Rothschild giraffe who tend to visit the Manor in the mornings and evenings to greet guests and sniff out some snacks before venturing out into their sanctuary of 140 acres. From 1974, Giraffe Manor was the home of Jock and Betty Leslie-Melville, whose lifelong ambition became the preservation of this beautiful and threatened species of giraffe.

Accommodation at Giraffe Manor is both varied and stylish and are a favourite of celebrities such as Ellen Degeneres.  The Manor was built in the 1930’s and some of its interior decor reflects the fashion of the day, including the 1930s art deco bathroom complete with black and white floor to ceiling tiling. These features make the property unique, and form part of its personality.

There are six rooms, one of which is suitable for children. Room configurations are:

Betty’s Room – double.

Daisy’s Room – twin.

Jock’s Room – twin.

Marlon’s Room – double or twin.

Lynn’s Room – double or twin.

Karen Blixen’s Room (annex) – double / twin / family (sleeps up to 5 pax with extra bed in room).
