Hospitals

 

Uganda has both public and private hospitals.When visiting Uganda it’s advisable to get travel insurance from your home country.The private hospitals are both modern & clean.For specialised services like dentists, gynaecologists, optical etc it’s advisable to get them from the major towns.As well please note that most of the major hospitals operate on a 24-hour service.

Immunizations

 

When visiting Uganda the following you need to have an international certificate showing proof of your immunisation

 

The vaccinations that are highly recommended include:

 

  • Yellow Fever
  • Tetanus
  • cholera

 

 

 

Food

 

Choosing what to eat is more a personal issue and one filled with common sense.When in Uganda, especially in the major towns the establishments are clean and very few cases of food poison.The best way is to ask around where everyone else goes that way you will get a feel of where it’s safe to go eat

 

HIV/AIDS

 

The best protection against HIV is obviously avoidance of all forms of casual sex.If you do decide to have sex with the local prostitutes or citizens it’s advisable to use a condom.Condoms are literally sold everywhere so you have no excuse

 

Malaria

 

The risk of catching malaria is real. Which means that you need to have precautionary measures in place.Before you leave for Uganda tell your doctor you are visiting the country and he/she may prescribe something for you.When in Uganda especially when on safari ensure that you sleep under a treated mosquito net.When you leave the country ensure that you have some anti-malaria tablets.In the unfortunate scenario you do fall sick ensure you are rushed to hospital for treatment.

 

Water

 

The water in Uganda is fairly safe.For foreigners we advise when you are on safari to use bottled water from established brands or boil the water
