Currency
The official currency is the Tanzania Shilling. Its abbreviation is Tshs
The notes are denominated in 500, 1000, 200, 5000 and 10000 shillings


Travellers Cheques are accepted and you can cash them at any bank.When you come with your foreign currency you can change the cash at any bank or forex bureau.There are no limits to the amount of money you can bring in Tanzania

Banks

Banks are open from 9:00am to 3:00pm Monday to Friday.Most banks also are open on Saturday from 9:00am to 11:00am.

Credit and Debit Cards

Credit cards are generally accepted in Tanzania.Most establishments accept credit cards especially the international ones like VISA, MasterCard, American Express and Diners Club.

Nearly all the banks in Tanzania have ATMs and they accept most credit cards so that you can withdraw cash from them.You will notice the VISA or MasterCard logos prominently displayed outside the ATMs
