From your hotel you can get International Direct Dialling. The different phone companies have different charges so please get information first before calling. The cheapest way to call intentional is to visit the cyber cafes which offer phone calls using the internet.
Landline Calls
You can make landline calls using payphones, phone bureaus and cell phones. The cheapest calls are on the Telkom network the only landline company in Kenya. The cost is on average Kshs 7 per minute and you are billed per second. The charges on the cell phones are between Kshs 14 to 20 and it may depend on the tariff times. Currency Converter
Mobile Telephone Services
All mobile phones are based on the GSM 900 network or CDMA technologies. The country has 4 mobile networks Yu, Orange, Zain & Safaricom which use the GSM while Telkom Kenya use CDMA technologies
The two systems provide reasonable reception throughout most of the country. However in the remote parts of the country the receptions may be weak if not available altogether. You can decide to use your present roaming service or get a new sim card while in the country which may be cheaper for you to do so
In the event your phone is not compatible with the sim cards of the local networks you can either buy a phone or rent one. Most urban centres have phone shops in which you can be assisted
